Guided by a long-term vision of strong, sustainable, and balanced global development, the program conducts rigorous research, identifies key audiences and policy opportunities, and disseminates its findings to inform the creation of effective policy solutions. Our scholarship highlights areas in need of reform and proposes targeted recommendations with the objectives of strengthening national government performance, enriching public discourse, and providing policymakers with expert analysis and actionable ideas to enhance institutional governance.
The Role of Public Policy in Sustainable Infrastructure
Our public sector practitioners are producing a series of articles examining innovations in government with broad applicability. Drawing on field research and interviews with government officials, senior executives, academics, and representatives from nongovernmental organizations, the series offers a set of concise profiles that highlight the individuals, institutions, and management approaches shaping this current wave of transformation. The project does not advance or endorse any political positions; rather, it focuses on sustained and consequential initiatives. We welcome nominations of countries, emerging trends, or notable innovators for potential inclusion in the series.
Cities and metropolitan regions serve as the economic engines of both national and global markets and are the primary environments in which individuals pursue employment and opportunity. They stand at the forefront of the major demographic and social shifts affecting the nation. Our mission is to provide research and practical solutions that enable metropolitan leaders to build an advanced, inclusive economy. Leveraging insights from the private sector and decades of experience in public sector advisory work, we assist clients across a range of strategic priorities, including identifying social, economic, and technological trends; aligning budgeting with strategic planning; designing stakeholder‑engagement strategies; and developing innovation programs.
Public-Private Partnerships are Key to Economic Development
dvanced and emerging nations alike confront significant—though distinct—challenges in achieving stable and inclusive economic growth. Developing economies, in particular, must weigh the benefits of economic advancement against its societal and individual costs. Although substantial progress has been made over the past century in lifting individuals and communities out of poverty, sustaining this momentum will require continued, focused attention on economic development. Unlocking future growth will depend on the implementation of effective strategies to address persistent barriers, including natural disasters and the impacts of climate change.
For the Columbus Region, the need to modernize infrastructure while pursuing transformational change has become increasingly urgent. The pace of technological innovation, evolving business models, and rising automation has exceeded the region’s infrastructure capacity over recent decades. With much of the previous century’s infrastructure now reaching the end of its functional lifespan, metropolitan leaders must recognize that maintaining competitiveness in the global marketplace will necessitate a renewed and substantial investment in the built environment.
